What happens when we die?
Transition from the corporeal
K. West
Big question ~ Big subject ~ Intensely interesting.
Does anyone know exactly?
No.
Have you noticed how inarticulate other religions suddenly become when you ask them the following question?
"What happens to the soul after the death of the physical body?"
Try it next time you are petitioned by someone who is determined to prove that they are right in what they believe and
you are wrong in what you believe when you declare to them your ideas and beliefs to be Spiritualist. (It can also be fun to watch)...
As Spiritualists we seldom, if ever, use the following terms: -
Dead
Die
Death
DyingWe prefer to say, 'pass over', 'passed', 'transition' or any one of a number of other terms.
There is no such thing as death. The word death, together with any of its participles, implies cessation of all activity. In reality,
we are more alive over there than we ever will have been here on earth.
No matter what the circumstances of our passing, we only make our transition from the corporeal at the precise moment we are
meant to. Although it is often said, 'they went before their time', 'it was an accident' and 'it was not meant to be', these are merely
figures of speech to convey a particularly tragic part in the circumstances of the passing.
Silver Cord:
The Old Testament is really quite accurate in its assertion that there is a silver cord attached to the body of the individual. This cord remains attached all the days of our earthly lives. Even when we dream or astral travel, this cord remains attached to
the solar plexus. Where Jairus's daughter is reported to him as being 'dead' and likewise Lazarus, Jesus immediately told the news
bearers that these people were "not dead but sleeping". He knew - because he was a medium - that the souls they spoke of could
not be found in the Spirit World. Their silver cords were still attached. They had not made their transition.
In the case of Jairus, Jesus says again when he gets to the house that "the maiden sleepeth. I will wake her from her sleep".
In both cases, it was the spectators, the onlookers who said, "He raises the dead!" and "The dead are awakened by his call!"
It seems they never were dead.
Once the silver cord is severed, it is severed for good and the spirit cannot return to the body. So, when we "die", it could
be said that this is the true death - the moment at which the earthly life well and truly ceases to be.
Because we are all different it is therefore difficult within the confines of this essay, and the shear diversity of individual passings,
to do anything other than to generalise. I'm sure you will make the necessary allowances in respect of the cases that apply to you.
I have decided here to simply categorise into two distinct sections, the good person passes - the bad person passes.
GOOD PERSON:
Under ordinary circumstances when we leave our earthly life we go into a world we have made for ourselves. In its simplest form, this means if we've been a swizz or swindler all our lives then we will find very little awaiting us on the Other Side. Equally, if we have
led a good life and been generous and forgiving then we shall find a world of light and beauty, which is directly proportional to how
we have lived our life on the earth plane.
You cannot reap that which you have not sown.
Whatever our demeanor in life, we shall always find a world of forgiveness and compassion awaiting us on the Other Side.
Many times people on their death bed or in the hours immedaitely prior to passing report seeing long lost loved ones around them.
We take this as a welcoming from our friends on the Other Side. The individual concerned will often intuitively know of their
impending passing to the higher side of life.
Just as the silver cord is finally broken [at sometime immediately preceding this stage] it is said that our life flashes before us.
The spirit then floats free from the body. It is also said that in transition to the next phase of life we exit the body through the
crown chakra ~ out through the top of the head. It seems we float to the top of the room, somewhere around the ceiling height
and are not restricted but omniscient in our observations of what is going on around us. Although testimony varies somewhat,
it seems we next find ourselves in a kind of tunnel, travelling apace 'towards the light'.
Having successfully traversed this commonly reported tunnel experience, this next phase finds us in a place which could be described
as a meeting plane. It is not the Spirit World proper but a kind of reception level immediately prior to going fully into the next
phase of life. Some have described it as a higher astral level or slightly lower level of the spirit realm [possibly between worlds].
There is also strong evidence and testimony that we dwell here approximately three earthly days before moving on ~
similar to the Risen Christ experience. [By 'moving on' it does not mean we cannot then come back].
It seems that part of the function of this reception level is to help individuals adjust to the new experience of returning to their
spiritual home. Some people have passed traumatically. Some people have suffered great anxiety prior to passing. In these
cases there are what we may call hospitals and specially dedicated healing places and centres to handle such souls as these.
Here, the person will find pure healing and restoration at a level and pace they are ready for. However, not everyone needs
this experience.
