Is there a difference between psychic and spiritual?

Yes. Many people are unaware of this of course and quite often confuse say a tarot reader with the Spiritualist Medium.

In order to adequately inform we first need to define 'medium' and 'psychic' and the difference between them.

 
What do we mean when we say 'psychic'?
This is a massive subject and further reading is essential.

All mediums are psychic
Not all psychics are mediums

Everyone is psychic to a greater or lesser extent. The psychic will only pick up conditions around the earth plane, i.e.; a living person, a house, an object/artefact and so on. They are not linking in with the Spirit World and things coming from that direction. They are merely sensitive to emanations in the auric fields of both you and I, and latent energies and impressions left on inanimate objects and places.

For example; how many times have we heard it said that a certain 'psychic' someone went to see told them all about themselves?

Let us create a hypothetical case...

The Psychic related to our 'recipient' that they:-
 

(a) Suffered a terrible illness when they were at school.
(b)   The psychic alluded to a business idea they had always wanted to realise and by alluding to it, were then advised to "Go for it!".
(c) Even the rickety old staircase in their house was mentioned and they were warned to be careful.
(d) They were even told how much money they had in their purse.
(e) The psychic then went on to describe their mother perfectly...(who for the purposes of this discussion we shall place in Spirit World)


...Amazing? Perhaps, but not where the psychic is concerned. These things are quite common place in the ordinary Awareness Class of any forward looking Spiritualist Association. The students are encouraged to develop the psychic.

The stronger the psychic, the better the medium!

Jesus, Buddha, Mohammed, Moses, Viracocha and so forth, were only able to manifest the Spirit the way they did because of their extraordinary psychic abilities.

So how is it done?  - Please read  Auras.

First of all let's look again at that reading and its salient hypothetical points.

Namely:

This client was greatly impressed with what they received but let's look closely at what is really going on using the mechanics of psychic science.

The aura that both you, I and all living things possess is an invisible field of energy that surrounds all living things. The aura is an energy of the spirit and in turn, the spirit is the eternal part of any living thing - remember that!. The energies and fields of the aura are created by the Divine spark which is situated at the centre of the mental and emotional aura around the head.

Your aura is a data base containing information on everything to do with you; every thought you've ever had, every action you've ever made and every deed you've ever done in your life. It also contains your complete medical history. It also contains all your hopes, wishes, dreams and fears.

It could be argued that the client knew already how much they had in their purse. This may have been prominent in their mind at that particular time and the psychic has merely picked up on this. Remember, so often people say that they were told 'all about themselves'. So what is the spiritual value in that? Again, this is the kind of thing we look at and demonstrate every week in our Spiritual Awareness Classes. These exercises are in order to strengthen the psychic aspect of the worker in the field.

Where the illness in youth is alluded to, this is also possible to read from the aura, particularly the physical aura. This aura gives good indication as to past and present disorders.

The staircase they were warned about is also prominent in the mental and emotional aura as our client's worry over this rickety thing represents a fear in their mental state. The psychic again has picked up on a condition around the individual where a concern is felt. In reality, the fear may be, and often is, reality only in the mind of the recipient. It doesn't mean they are going to come to grief on that staircase.

Regarding the business idea, this is represented as a dream and, in essence, may only ever be that and nothing else. Our subject may be the kind of person who is a dreamer by nature and has a history of follies. Her dream may be to set up a shop in another part of the country in which she sees herself becoming a success. The psychic picks up on this and reads it back as a message to her that she must sell-up, move location and start that business. Our recipient will be astounded that the psychic has told her this, so it must be true...she will do as the message suggests. Her poverty of knowledge concerning how psychic science works is, most likely, going to leave her high and dry in the near future! See 'Personal Responsibility' under...

The Seven Principles of Spiritualism.

Where the recipient's mother is concerned, the psychic has read only an earthly picture of this woman from the client's auric field - in this case the mental and emotional aura. The mother may or may not be present at the time of the reading. This is irrelevant. The psychic merely reads a picture of what this lady looked like when on the earth plane together with her illnesses, style of clothes and so on.

To further illustrate this, our client has a  liking for, say, John Lennon. The psychic sees a mental picture of John Lennon with our client and therefore gives them 'John Lennon'. It doesn't mean that John Lennon is actually there! Again, he may or may not be...as with mother, most likely not. We are purely on a psychic level with this reading.

The psychic is not necessarily a Spiritualist but a Materialist. The simplest and best way to distinguish between the two is not to look at the 'gift' as such, but to look at the receipt! How much have you been charged? Although we live on a material plane, it does not follow that we are charged as a service/utility or luxury item. As you read on this point shall become clearer to you. "Ye shall know them by their fruits" - Jesus.

The aura also contains much about the past generations of our families. This is a special area of study under the title of SYMPATHETIC VIBRATIONS OF THOUGHT. These are very special indeed. Our client's mother came on one of these vibrations. When our client walked into the room, she brought with her all her history, everyone she's ever met, and so on and so forth. This also goes some way to explaining how the psychic alludes to something that the client was not thinking about at the time and indeed hadn't done so for maybe many years.

Distance is no barrier. Readings, as with healing, can be given over the Net, the telephone, snail mail and so forth.

Ah, but how do they predict the future? How is that possible?

If we look anecdotally at these stories of prediction, in the psychic sense they are merely the probable outcome of events that are already set in motion.

For example;
The client is lousy at wiring plugs and the like. They have many dodgy appliances hooked up at home. On a sympathetic vibration of thought, the psychic becomes aware of this and interprets the vision thus by telling our recipient that there will be an electrical shortage and sparks in the kitchen area. Ka-boom!! Sure enough, this is exactly what happens. But because we are purely on the psychic level, surely this message was then the probable outcome of subsequent events that were already set in motion?

But what about disasters, like, say, in the news? How come people often predict accurately these events that affect us all?

Again, applying the science of psychic mechanisms, we clearly see that these cataclysmic events were the probable outcome of things and events already set in motion. Further study, discussion and analysis of this phenomenon is essential. I may introduce a special category regarding this part of psychic study...Why not let me know?

For example, where there are landslides and shanties that subsequently slip into oblivion together with their occupants, we can see politically, socially and spiritually that these people are forced by their own richer brothers and sisters to eak out an existence, away from the areas of plenty, in poverty and deprivation. Because we exhaust the natural environment through tree-felling, scorched earth and non-renewable resources, there is nothing to bind the land together - there is nowhere else for them to live. So, when the rains do come they bring disaster. Although our spirit friends often do feed us this information, on a psychic and mechanical level, it is actually the probable outcome of events that were already long set in motion. Yes? On a psychic level, we become sensitive to these future events that inevitably affect us all. The burden of further reading and understanding of how this psychic phenomena and principle works is now on you...

Now let us look at Spiritual Mediumship and how it is different when the Spirit give us these things.

Firstly, a medium is a person who has developed their psychic sensitivities to the point where they can sense presences, receive and accurately interpret messages, and also relay information from the other side of life. But I put it to you that the Spiritualist Medium will have a further special gift - that of spirituality!

*The quality of the medium's gift will be directly proportional to their spirituality

They will have sat for many years and will have gone through many tests - some heartbreaking - to achieve a standard of development that is consistent and worthy of the Other Side. The Spiritualist Medium will practice what they preach and will refuse no-one a service.

Many are called, but very, very few are chosen!

The medium blends/attunes with the sitter. They then open a channel to the Spirit and listen, observe and pass on what comes through. They are often not aware of what they have given out when asked later to recall particular details, though this isn't always the case. I mention it here because it adequately illustrates the fact that an altered state of consciousness [ASC] or light overshadowing by the Spirit Operators has taken place. Let's look afresh at that hypothetical reading again...

The Spiritualist medium operates on the C.E.R.T. principle. This means;
 

*Contact
*Evidence
*Reason for coming
*Ta Ta or Tidy up
They will establish a strong link with a particular person in the spirit, in this [hypothetical] case, the mother. The medium will be able to keep hold of this contact and offer proof that they are who they say they are.

"Test ye first the spirits!" - Jesus.

Contact:
The medium will do this by telling her how her mother passed to Spirit and what form this passing took. Our spirit friends are always willing to discuss this because having passed through the experience we call 'death', they are only too willing to communicate back and tell us that they are there and take an interest in what goes on around us. Remember too, that it is their rebirth into the Spirit and in the same way we are keen to tell of where we have come from, so they too are keen to relay information back to us about their side of life. The equivalent to the details on a spiritual passport.

Spiritualists prefer to use the term 'pass on' or 'passed on', as the word 'death' implies cessation of all activity. In reality, they are more alive over there than you or I will ever be here!

Evidence:
The health condition and the nature of her passing is offered as evidence of contact together with memory links, name, description, occupation, characteristics and so on. If her daughter can't take messages around her mother's health condition and the passing, together with the above named items, then how can she possibly take the message or even believe they have survived the death of the physical body?

Reason for coming:
Love, of course! There is also a special power that comes with this love that comforts the bereaved, gives hope to the lonely and heals the sick in mind, body and spirit.

The medium knows that the Spirit World never interfere in your life. Your decisions are your own. Over the years, through the evolution of their individual soul, the medium will build up an invaluable wealth of experience and will be able to offer help and advice, but, in reality, all the medium and the spirits need prove is that they are there, nothing else - the rest is up to you. You must take account of your own life; that is part of the function of life on the earthplane...that is why we incarnate. If this were not so then mediums would be constantly petitioned to give us those six magic numbers every week. They would be telling us what house to buy, which holiday to go on and which relationship to make or break. [Does that now sound psychic?...It should do!].

Regarding the illness in youth, our client's mother will be relating this as a special memory link together with other 'evidence' at what may have been a turning point in our recipient's life. Mothers are good like that.

The staircase scenario will be one of her mother, or someone else who has made contact, telling her that those stairs need attending to and this is giving some concern to the Other Side. They will not tell her that she is going to come to grief - they never frighten us. This message will inspire a deeper thinking in our client into the possible implications of neglect...after all, we do live on the material plane...things do wear out and need repair and maintenance. This will also come on the vibration of what is 'currently' around us.

The business venture will be alluded to by the spirit as exactly what it is...a dream and nothing more, together with the philosophy that as you do, so you are ~ as you think, so you shall become. End of story. The rest is up to you.

The purpose of these words is not to berate the psychic, but to show the world of difference between the two. Jesus often used the psychic faculty to rekindle faith within the individual. For example, the sceptical woman at the well who refused him water. He turned to her and said: 'You have had five husbands. The one you are with now you are not married to'. He then sent the apostles into the town to fetch the donkey. He told them where and from whom they would acquire this animal...another amazing demonstration of psychic ability. Then when they returned the woman said to them, 'He has told me everything I ever did, and unto five generations!' This has got to be the oldest recorded and most amazing Private Sitting of all time! Spiritualist Mediums know, as Jesus did, that there is nothing like faith to boost psychic power. He used the psychic to rekindle the faith of the sceptical woman.

Mechanics/science of Mediumship:
How does it work?
When we learn to drive a car, through our five main senses, we are (at first) bombarded with information to the conscious mind. In fact, often too much information. We are fearfully conscious of our position on the road, our speed, the various gauges, our mirrors, other road users, the gear we've selected and so on. But after a while these things go into the subconscious mind, and with adequate practice we find that we can quite happily drive the vehicle whilst talking to our passengers, listening to the radio, thinking about what we are going to do today, etc. In other words, slowly, and with practice, these things are absorbed into the subconscious and become second nature.

However, the Spirit work in reverse. They get in touch with our subconscious mind by contacting the inspirational and creative part through which communication manifests itself through any one of the five senses, i.e.; we get tastes, aromas, we see them, we hear them, we feel them. Because they use this particular faculty in the mind, (the creative and inspirational part) it is easy for the novice to get confused between what is imagination and what is a genuine communication or idea from the Other Side.

So how do we know the difference?

Practice and practice and practice and practice and practice!

The musician has the gift, but it needs development. The artist has the gift, but it needs development.

Distance is no preclusion to the gift. It can be ministered/demonstrated over the Net, telephone, by letter, and so forth.

Simply put:

Clairvoyance: This means to clearly see Spirit.

Clairaudience: This means to clearly hear Spirit.

Clairsentience: This means to clearly pick up on feelings, aromas and the like.

Claircognizance: This means to clearly 'know' - to have a greater awareness.

We are ALL mediums to a greater or lesser degree. It is said that the highest form of mediumship is Healing. As with all the spiritual gifts, it is the complete and total giving over of one's self as the instrument of Divine will!
