It is said that the highest form of mediumship is healing. Unlike say, clairvoyance, which is itself only one aspect of mediumship, healing knows no limits. Strictly speaking, there are no limits to any of the spiritual gifts but, however, a number of problems can be encountered by the worker in the field. The example I use here can be illustrated in practice by the fact that clairvoyance, and the clairvoyant, are often limited to those persons generally unknown to them. For example, in a meeting, if the clairvoyant part of the service is taken by a resident medium, then human nature is such that somewhere in our subconscious mind we are thinking, 'Ah, but how much do they already know about this person?'.
Familiarity is the enemy of progress, development and so forth...
This can also have a cumulative effect on the medium too. This is why mediums seldom do as well in their own church as they do in others!
Conversely, the healer can give healing to all and anyone. It matters not whether they be family, friend or stranger.
Healing knows no limits!
Healing can be brought to all living things, the animal kingdom, the planet earth, every green thing, the insect world, relationships, ourselves, situations both locally and abroad, wars, famine, etc. As Spiritualists we have confidence in our hearts to know that our thoughts can have an affect.
Faith, sadly, has become a bit of a dirty word in our movement. But people who say that we need not have faith are merely showing their ignorance. Faith is a gift. It is a particular developed quality of the soul. It means 'to actively believe'. We should have faith in one another and in the 'power of the spirit'. Jesus knew that there was nothing like faith to boost psychic power. Where there is unbelief, we can do very little work. Negativity is the barrier to all spiritual enlightenment and unfoldment.
So, what is healing?
It is to restore to health in mind, body and spirit. It is the loving energy from the soul source [God], channelled by divine power to where it is needed most. Spirit delineate the power. How does it work?
It works in many different ways and on many different levels, but generally, it starts with the conditions on earth being such that healing is required. The healer and the recipient should both ideally ask for divine intercession. We do not ask spirit guides, loved ones or helpers for healing, they are simply part of the channelling process and we recognise this as such and therefore respect their role in the order of things. It is the power of God, and God the sentient, that sends a proportional amount of healing power through the many different levels, [further reading is essential to understand this principle of operation]. There are literally hundreds of helpers and spirit channellers on the other side of life, directing that energy to and through the earthbound healer before it finally passes through their hands and into the patient.
There are no guarantees. We do not diagnose. Spiritual healing is no replacement for orthodox treatment. Sadly, most hospital and terminal/near terminal cases that get referred to us are done so as a last resort. If we could get to the patient earlier then perhaps there would be many a different outcome? This is a point of criticism towards spiritual healing, i.e.; the perception that we often fail, especially where cancers and other terminal conditions are concerned. A burden yes, but one which we bear gladly and pray that in time doctors will be quicker in suggesting the services of spiritual healers such as us.
There are strict codes and guidelines here in the UK concerning the practice of spiritual healing as a result of it being recognised by an Act of Parliament and by the EEC [European Economic Community]. Progress is slow but it is progress nonetheless.
It is possible to heal without touch whatsoever. This is healing through the aura. A preferred method especially since legislation is complex in most western countries concerning touching of the patient.
It is possible to heal the foot through the head and vice versa. Tom Johansen, a great Spiritualist Healer, described it best when he recalled an experience he had in Canada at a healing seminar. He was asked to give healing to a young girl with what he thought was leukaemia. She also appeared to have a condition around the head area that needed attention. With all his might he directed and channelled the healing to this girl for these conditions.
A few days later he was contacted by her. She told him that the swelling in her feet had completely gone! There was no leukaemia or condition around her head. He had simply assumed there was! As he said when relating this anecdote, "Spirit always know best!"
ABSENT HEALING:
If possible, always ask the person concerned if they would like absent healing. Distance is no barrier; it makes no difference whatsoever. Anyone and everyone is an absent healer! We simply send out our thoughts of love and concern for our fellow brothers and sisters. We have that confidence in our hearts to know that God is always listening to us. and we leave the rest up to Him and His workers in the Spirit. As Tom Johansen says, 'Just wanting to help someone is the highest form of prayer and healing'.You may want to keep a healing list yourself and at a set time, which ever is convenient for you, you can send out healing thoughts to those names written thereon. You can browse this list or simply form a picture of it in your mind. Remember, it is where the heart is!
A very important point made many times by the Spirit World is that they can't do it all themselves. They need those on the same plane as those they are sending healing to, to ask and request these things of them! This makes perfect sense. After all, we are [for the most part] closer to each other than we are to those in Spirit.
Absent healing is every bit as effective as any other form of healing.
THE LAYING ON OF HANDS:
Great feelings of comfort, warmth and love are generated by the very act of laying on hands. Some people need to feel that direct influence, not only from the Spirit World, but also from a fellow human being.
The Healer must attune themselves to the patient. After a period of time a special healing rapport/affinity builds up between healer and recipient. This aids the healing process in a special and complementary manner. Nothing is ever in the hands of the worker. Instead, we sit quietly and let the Spirit do the work. We are the control. The Spirit will not make us do something we do not want to do. It is a partnership and communion of the highest order and should always be respected as such.
